Pena-Francesch’s accomplishments will be celebrated at a special symposium at the 2025 ACS Fall Meeting in Washington, DC in August.

HDL nanodiscs carrying a Liver X Receptor agonist and CpG oligonucleotides to target glioblastoma tumors in mice. This treatment, especially when combined with radiation therapy, significantly reduced tumor size and improved long-term survival, with some mice showing no tumor recurrence upon rechallenge.

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapeutics have become widely successful for treatment of any number of diseases. However, for certain hard-to-reach tissues, e.g., eye, brain, tumors, and joints, local delivery is desired and long-term controlled release is necessary to avoid frequent injections and poor patient compliance.

In cooperation with Stanford, UM receives $19M in order to support this research. Goal of research is to assist stroke patients and allow them the ability to “speak”

Over the past 40 years, advancements in basic virology have facilitated the development of OVs that are currently undergoing clinical evaluation. The outcomes of these translational efforts will come to fruition within the next 10 years, ultimately determining the therapeutic potential and clinical value of OVs in cancer treatment.
