BIONIC Career Chat with Paul Podsialo

Dr. Paul Podsiadlo is a graduate of Michigan’s Chemical Engineering Department: ’02 BSE, ’06 MSE, and ’08 PhD (Go Blue!). He has completed his doctoral dissertation in Prof. Nicholas Kotov’s group focusing on development of multilayered nanocomposites using layer-by-layer assembly. While at Michigan, he was a Hertz Foundation Fellow and his dissertation work was recognized with multiple awards, including the Hertz Foundation Thesis Prize, Collegiate Inventors’ Competition Graduate Prize, and “Quadrant Award” – an International Thesis Prize in Materials and Composites. After graduation, Paul continued his training in the space of nanomaterials as a Willard Frank Libby Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at Argonne National Laboratories’ – Center for Nanoscale Materials. In 2011, he has decided to pursue industrial career in the energy sector by joining ExxonMobil Corporation’s Research & Engineering Company. Over the past decade he has worked in several technology organizations with roles spanning active materials discovery, process development, and large scale process engineering. He has contributed to commercialization of several processes and he is an inventor and co-inventor on over 40 patents.
